That the number of our enemies is greatly increased by the arrival of General Clinton with the whole Southern Army from So Carolina. That the fleet which came in a few days since are Hessians and Scotch Highlanders part of 14,000 who were left off New Foundland in the whole making 30,000 men that is said by Officers both of the Army & Navy they are to attack New York, Long Island in the course of a week. In this day of calamity it great expectations when our enemies are exerting every nerve to pluck up pull down and destroy us it is of the greatest necessity that everything in our power be done for the defense of our rights, properties, lives and prosperity….continues then ends with…given under my hand in Lebanon the 19th Aug.
