Important Louis XV Table having shaped top opening to felt interior with inlaid top and frieze on cabriole legs, all with brass mounts, height 30 1/2 inches, width 35 inches, closed depth 17 inches. Several accounts record Dr. Valentine Mott travelling through Europe during the 1830’s and 1840’s to respite from his daily responsibilities. He was received with distinction throughout Europe and Asia including personally by King Louis Philippe I and the French Royal Family. Provenance: King Louis Philippe I of France Louisa Mott, wife of esteemed surgeon Dr. Valentine Mott, gifted from the above, 1836 New York Academy of Medicine, most likely gifted from the above during Dr. Mott’s tenure as President of the Academy, 1849 -1865. Old paper label on bottom states Table belongs to set furniture presented by Louis Phillipe King of France to Louisa D Mott wife of Dr. Valentine Mott 1836.
