Mahogany Chippendale armchair having arched crest rail ornamented with carved rope and tassel motif and deeply scrolled ears with a center rocaille shell all over a pierced carved splat, the slip seat flanked by scrolled arms all set on cabriole legs with typical Philadelphia acanthus leaves carved on knees ending in ball and claw feet with central carved shell on seat rail. This chair is closely related to side chair in the Collection of Baltimore Museum pictured in American Furniture Book plate #13. seat ht. 17 1/2 in. total ht. 39 1/4 in.
